Update on Smoothies

Things sure have changed in the way that I make my basic smoothie. I still try to have one each day. Sometimes I might run out of something & use something in its placentirety, but here is my basic recipe lately of what I like to keep stocked up on. Note: I do have a big blender. Fruit smoothie 1/2 cup strawberries 1 cup blueberries 3 basil leaves 1 banana 1 avacado 1/2 cup baby spinach 1 tbs hemp protein 1/2 tbs turmeric powder 1/2 tsp pepper About 25 Oz coconut water 1/2 cup kefir Tbs honey yogurt 2 tbs coconut flakes unsweetened 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp sea buckthorn (solaray) with goji, lychee, aloe + Mix, pour, drink. Sometimes I will substitute the strawberries for other mixed frozen fruits. I don't always have the seabuckthorn liquid, when I don't, I'll use a little more turmeric. I don't know for a fact, but I think sea buckthorn and turmeric are both blood thinners. So, if both are used..use less of each, or one or the other. I don't take aspirin on the days that I use these in my smoothie, so you shouldn't either.😊

smoothies

I'm not the type of person that is bothered by sugar. I use it & don't use the substitutes- but they can be used in smoothies. I've been making smoothies lately & don't have just one outstanding recipe, because they're the kind of thing that you can mix up with what you have. I have made them & mixed strawberries, blueberries, blackberries & a banana in one- but I use what I have- a little or alot of each. I put the fruit in the blender, a cup of lowfat milk, a few tablespoons of yogurt (sometimes flavored) sugar according to taste & crushed ice- blend. My family loves them.
We can throw flax seeds, granola, protein powder or anything that we want in the smoothie & it doesn't knock off the taste but is even healthier.
Icecream is good in a smoothie, but the sugar will need to be left out & I would still add milk.

fontina cheese

I have heard of this cheese many times, but I haven't ever used it while cooking at home. I was watching the show "My favorite thing to eat" I believe that is the name of it. I had never seen it before either. Well, the night that I watched, there were multiple recipes that included this cheese. I'm planning to buy some & use it more at home. I don't have the recipes that were on the show- but they were using it with other cheeses for a pizza & nachos. I plan to try a gnocci recipe soon that uses it.
Maybe I can create some of my own recipes with it, that are really good & post them.

beef nachos

Here is an easy one that I make.

Cook a lb of ground beef, strain when done.
Mix with a can of refried beans or homemade refried beans. Warm.Season with mexican seasoning.
Warm tortilla chips in oven.
Melt the type of cheese that you like. I usually just melt cheese whiz, but sometimes use the mexican blends.

I layer on a plate, the chips & meat mixture.
On top of it all- I add chopped onions, jalapenos, sour cream, salsa, cheese.

sandwiches

Here are a few sandwiches that I love, that many people think sound bad. Most of the time when they try them, they do like them.

Banana sandwich:
A small amount of peanut butter spread on the bread. I prefer smooth.
Mayo & sliced banana on bread.

Pineapple sandwich:
Strain the pineapple & put it on the bread with mayo.

Ham & turkey sandwich:
Put meat on the bread with mayo, pepper, & bbq chips.

egg sandwich:
I do love the egg sandwiches with bacon & cheese. I can't get my sons to eat this one but it is better than it sounds.

mayo, ketchup, salt, pepper & scrambled eggs on the bread. This one is usually better with toasted bread.

hot ham & cheese

This morning I made eggs & hot ham & cheese sandwiches. The sandwiches were pretty good & very easy, so I thought that I would add it on here.

I had hamburger buns, butter, thin sliced ham precut to size of buns, provolone cheese, swiss cheese.

I melted 2 tbl butter in microwave & drizzled it lightly on buns that I toasted in the oven. I took about 10 slices of ham for each person & put a quarter of provolone between every 3 slices of ham. In the middle of my stack of ham, I crisscrossed on slice of swiss cheese. Took all of my stacks of ham & cheese, put them in the microwave & cooked until the cheese melted. I put salt on the toasted bread & put each stack of ham & cheese on a bun. This was really fast & easy. Fattening I am sure, but not worse than making bacon & putting cheese in the eggs probably. It tasted a little like Hardees hot ham & cheese but a little better.

food in tubes

I do try to keep a garlic paste in a tube at home, even though I keep plenty of fresh garlic at all times as well. I was in the store the other day & noticed that they have many tubes of food. Even fish in a tube. Out of all of the choices, I decided to try the basil pesto blend. I used a little over half of the tube on pasta. It was tasteless pretty much. I added more with salt & it did get better but I definitely prefer to make my basil pesto homemade like my recipe on here.
On the back of the basil tube, there were many recipes & they may have been good. I tried one of them which was really simple. I added a tablespoon of the basil sauce to 3 oz of cream cheese the mushroom stems chopped from baby portabellos. I mixed the mixture, added it in the mushrooms & baked them for 15 minutes on 350. They weren't great but they were easy, fast & pretty good. We did eat all of them.
